@calamityfly Thanks! It’s the “mercenary giant” model from Ultraforge Miniatures. It’s resin and has awful mold lines and lots of flash, but it looks great and it’s (less than) half the price of the Forge World one.

@shakedown47 Plus, I think there were only 9 knights. Two were killed earlier in the battle from magic…

God I love Warhammer. Unpredictable outcomes rule

@newtpondskipper I think you’re right, but only for fleeing from combat. When you flee a charge, you move your unit and then remeasure the distance from the charging unit. I mean, what would you do if a 2nd unit charged yours – use the original dice roll?

@Ric1b Yes, that’s what happened. I play it as if he starts at WS10, but if he fails a fear test, he is WS1. I’ve never considered your interpretation…

Great battle report as always OB! Just one question: When your Knights of the Realm w/ the Green Knight hero charged the hellcannon and failed their fear test you said that your hero was reduced to WS 1 although he should have been WS 10. Was he granted this WS 10 from the armour of Agiulf? Because the way the rules for that armour have been written I usually play it so that nothing can reduce his weapon skill – even failed fear tests. If this is completely wrong please let me know!

the rule with fleeing is by the distance you rolled, they can’t catch you even if your unit is big enough that they should. You move their unit an inch behind yours. pg 60 BRB

Awesome BR oncebitten. I could just imagine the young knights errant looking for glory only to be smacked down by the hardened chaos veterans.

@shakedown47 Or alternatively, you dispel the manticore during your magic phase and don’t have to deal with it. Transformation of Kadon is a good spell, but it has to be used carefully, and you really have to think two or three player turns in advance to get the best out of it.

Also, I’d forgotten they’d lost the ward save. Still, dealing 11 wounds to thick armor is ridiculous.

@mobiusprimal After watching the batrep I realized I should have charged on the turn following the manticore’s arrival. One of three things would have happened: Sorcerer challenges, manticore accepts, which mitigates manti’s damage output; sorcerer challenges, unit champ accepts, manticore locked out of fight altogether; sorcer challenges, OB inexplicably declines, send manticore to back. Marauders can handily beat unbuffed men-at-arms in a straight up fight, and he’s no longer steadfast.

@mobiusprimal 11 T3 knights with no ward save. We both know that even a chosen deathstar (and these were just normal warriors, mind) can’t wipe out a unit of Bret knights with a 5+ wardsave. I got lucky because they had fled earlier in the battle. With all those strength 7 and 5 attacks, it would have been more ridiculous NOT to wipe out 11 guys with a 4+ wardsave.

Wow, this was an interesting one. I was, admittedly, probably more petulant than I should have been over the start of the game…the deployment, hellcannon’s turn 1 rampage, etc., but I got over all that when his general’s unit fled. At that point, I felt like I could pressure him enough to contribute something to the game. All in all, more luck went my way than probably should have, and the game was only as close as it was because of his knights errant. In the end it was a very fun game.

Always nice to watch a battle report from you, OnceBitten, and I hope you enjoy doing them, because if you do, i’ll keep watching them :)

Also, a house rule I would like to see implemented (maybe at Buckeye) to win a game, you need to score 10% of the points of the game more than your opponent. So a 1000 point game is won if you beat your opponent by 100. But a 2500 point game requires you beat him by 250 points. It increases the ranges for draws, but points are easier to fling around at higher points, in my opinion. Finally, those warriors with two characters are definitely a death star if they can womp 11 knights with ease.
